2021 Technology Upgrades

The Road Ahead

MATA is moving forward to implement new technology and tools that will better serve our customers and community. Learn more about the stops along the way as we elevate our service delivery and customer experience.

Stop 1

Installation of New Vehicle Location Hardware

This new location technology will eventually replace TransLoc and MATA Traveler. Effective October 18, TransLoc, MATA Traveler and the routes and schedules automated call line will be disabled during the upgrade time period. Customers may still speak with a representative for up-to-date information by dialing 901.274.MATA. The upgrade is expected to be complete in January 2022.

Once fully transitioned, our new system will feature:

  • Real-time vehicle location information through a mobile friendly online portal
  • Up-to-date vehicle capacity information
  • Current route detour guidance

Stop 2

Coming Soon! Next Generation Fare System

MATA will soon offer smart cards and ticket vending machines to conveniently purchase fare. We expect to begin initial testing of these services later this fall. Stay tuned for more information on the upcoming improvements to our GO901 payment system.
