Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday Downtown Detours

Due to several parades occurring simultaneously on January 19, 2026, MATA is implementing a consolidated detour plan in the downtown area to reduce confusion for customers.

Trolley Detour (8:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.)

Trolley service will operate on a temporary detour between A.W. Willis (Hudson) and Renasant Center.

Boarding Location:
Passengers may board the trolley at the northwest corner of A.W. Willis Ave. and N. Main St. at the top of every hour during the detour period.

Southbound Trolley Detour:
From A.W. Willis Ave. & N. Main St., the trolley will:

  • Travel west on A.W. Willis Ave.

  • Turn left onto Front St.

  • Turn left onto Poplar Ave.

  • Turn right onto N. Main St.
    Normal southbound service will resume from that point.

Northbound Trolley Detour:
Northbound trolleys will:

  • Turn left onto Poplar Ave.

  • Turn right onto Front St.

  • Turn right onto Mill Ave. (passing A.W. Willis)

  • Turn right onto N. Main St.
    Passengers may board at A.W. Willis Ave. & N. Main St.

Trolley Schedule:
Scheduled times along N. Main St. and at both ends of the route will remain the same, aside from the temporary detour routing.


Bus Route Detour Adjustment (Downtown Area)

As part of the consolidated detour plan, the following routes will be temporarily adjusted:

Affected Routes:
1, 2, 4, 12, 13, 34, 36, 39, 50, and 57

Outbound Service:
Buses will travel from A.W. Willis Ave. to Danny Thomas Blvd., operating over this segment in place of their regular routes.

Inbound Service:
Buses will operate from Danny Thomas Blvd. to A.W. Willis Ave., continuing into the William Hudson Transit Center.

These adjustments are intended to maintain consistent service and minimize disruption during parade activity.
