Safety is our top priority during weather events that may create hazardous travel conditions. The Memphis Area Transit Authority (MATA) will operate as follows:

Service Adjustments for Thursday, February 20, 2025:

 

MATA Prioritizes Safety Amid Winter Weather Conditions

The Memphis Area Transit Authority (MATA) is taking proactive steps to ensure the safety of its customers and employees as the region prepares for significant snowfall. The National Weather Service has advised that roadway travel be restricted to essential trips only due to hazardous conditions.

Under this plan, MATA will operate the following routes:

  • Route 11
  • Route 36
  • Route 39
  • Route 40
  • Route 42
  • Route 50
  • Route 52
  • Route 57

We will continue to monitor weather conditions closely and coordinate with City and State officials to ensure informed decisions based on the latest road conditions and forecasts.

Fixed-Route Buses:

  • Thursday, Feb 20th: Service starts at 7AM ends at 6 PM.

MATA Plus:

  • Limited to life-sustaining trips only.
  • Assessment Center will be closed Thursday, with appointments rescheduled.

Ready! On Demand & Groove On-Demand:

  • Service suspended Thursday, Feb 20th.

Transit Center Operations:

  • Transit Center Lobbies: Open from 6 AM to 7 PM.

Customer Service Hours:

  • Hudson Transit Center: Open 7 AM–3 PM Thursday.
  • American Way Transit Center: Open 7 AM–3 PM Thursday.
  • Airways Transit Center: Open 8 AM–12 PM Thursday.

Call Center:

  • Thursday: Open 5 AM–7 PM.

 

Warming Centers:

The City of Memphis’ Emergency Warming Centers will continue to remain open until further notice.

 

The Hospitality Hub operates the City of Memphis' Emergency Warming Center during extreme cold weather, providing a place of safety and kindness for the unhoused population to shelter from dangerous conditions. Please see the Hospitality Hub's Facebook and Instagram for the most updated details.

 

Opening Hours: Tuesday 2/18/25 at 7:00 pm until further notice

 

Location: To accommodate all guests, there will be TWO locations:

--- Single women and families will stay at the Hospitality Hub (590 Washington Ave); and

--- Single men and couples will stay at the First Baptist Church (200 East Parkway North)

 

Transportation: Transportation to both locations is operated by MATA and starting at 6:30 PM those requests can be made by calling a dedicated line, 901-297-1680.

 

The Warming Center is a temporary facility for those in need of a place for respite from the cold weather and not meant to replace the services provided by a shelter. Single men seeking overnight shelter are encouraged to seek assistance from the Memphis Union Mission at 383 Poplar Ave, 901-526-8403 (IDs and COVID vaccination card/proof of negative test required; free before 11am, $6/night 11am-7pm), or MIFA, 901-529-4545.

The National Weather Service has forecasted 1-2 inches of snow in Memphis through the early evening and has advised that roadway travel be restricted to essential trips only due to hazardous conditions.

Under this plan, MATA will operate the following routes:

  • Route 52
  • Route 57

  • Route 36: NO CHANGES
  • Route 39: NO CHANGES
  • Route 40:
    • RT 40 will use Thomas north & south (bypassing 2nd & Whitney) 
  • Route 42:
    • RT 42 will take Elvis Presley to Shelby Drive and back to Millbranch in & out (Bypassing Holmes & Airways)
  • Route 50: NO CHANGES
  • Route 52: NO CHANGES
  • Route 57: NO CHANGES

Customers will be informed about service updates via the MATA website, Omnilert automated messages, social media, as well as news media.
