MATA is making service updates to improve reliability, reduce delays, and better serve riders across the system. These changes take effect on Sunday, September 6th

More Buses on the Road
- 12 new fixed-route buses on the road
- Funding allocated for 44 more, slated for delivery 2027
- $48 million investment

We’re adding a bus to Routes 2, 8 and 36, meaning more frequent service and shorter waits for riders.
Route 2 – Madison
Weekday Service: 5:45 a.m.–8:27 p.m. | Instead of one continuous route, there will be a separate route that runs from Hudson to the U of M, with service alternating between 30–90 minutes (previously every 75 minutes).
Route 8–Chelsea & Highland
- Weekdays: 4:45 a.m.–9:52 p.m. | Every 45 minutes (previously every 60 minutes)
- Saturdays: 7:00 a.m.–9:07 p.m.| Every 45 minutes (previously every 60 minutes)
Route 36 - Lamar
- Weekdays: 4:00 a.m.–9:47 p.m. | Every 45 minutes (previously every 60 minutes)
- Saturdays: 7:00 a.m.–9:47 p.m. | Every 45 minutes (previously every 90 minutes)
- Sundays: 8:15 a.m.–6:02 p.m. | Every 60 minutes (previously every 90 minutes)
Route 39 - S. Third
Weekday service will begin at 5:15 a.m. and end at 10:05 p.m. with 60-minute headways (previously alternated between 30 and 90)
