Update to Federal Mask Mandate

The mask mandate for public transportation issued by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) was struck down yesterday (April 18) by a federal court.  In addition, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) also announced that it would no longer enforce the mandate given the federal court decision.  This means that passengers and MATA employees will no longer be required to wear a mask on vehicles and transit properties.

Since the decision was recently issued, it is not clear whether the U.S. Department of Justice Department will appeal the decision.  Our organization is monitoring the litigation and we will update you as developments become available. While MATA passengers and employees are no longer required to wear masks while on board vehicles and/or transit centers , masks are welcome and remain an important preventive measure against Covid-19.  Anyone needing or choosing to wear one is encouraged to do so.
